Today’s Mountain Forecast
About this forecast
We estimate summit views using Open-Meteo forecast data, the destination’s coordinates and its listed elevation. Humidity is interpolated between atmospheric pressure levels using their forecast heights above sea level. Moist air near saturation indicates a greater risk of cloud around the summit. We also examine the most humid air within 150 metres above or below it, alongside model visibility distance and hourly precipitation.
- Good: summit and nearby humidity below 85%, model visibility at least 10 km, and precipitation below 0.1 mm/hour.
- Poor: summit humidity at least 95%, model visibility below 5 km, or precipitation at least 1 mm/hour.
- Mixed: all other combinations, including moist air close to the summit or light precipitation.
These are practical planning thresholds, not calibrated probabilities. The humidity profile estimates cloud risk; it does not measure cloud directly. Visibility distance is a surface-model value and may describe surrounding terrain rather than the summit. Atmospheric levels and terrain are coarse, so local cloud, thin layers and rapid changes can be missed. Cloud overhead alone does not mean an obscured summit. Clear windows require at least one continuous daylight hour rated Good; nighttime ratings describe atmospheric conditions, not daylight views.
Mt Baker Ski Area uses Heather Meadows lodge at 1,311 m. All times use Vancouver time. Sunrise and sunset use the latest sunrise and earliest sunset across listed destinations. Forecasts refresh at 7 am and 7 pm Vancouver time, with possible scheduling delays. A failed update preserves the previous forecast and older forecasts are flagged.
